It is not widely known (but it should be) that of the 21 nations who participated in the Korean war (yes it WAS a war - not a conflict or skirmish!!) Canada contributed the third largest contingent, consisting of 1 army brigade of 3 infantry battalions; 1 artillery regiment; 1 armored regiment, 3 destroyers on a rotation basis, and an Air force air transport squadron - almost 27,000 Canadians served in the war of which over 1,500 were casualties including 516 who made the ultimate sacrifice.
